Jonathan Ashworth Defeated in Leicester South by Local Adam
Local secures narrow victory over Labour shadow minister
By-election result a surprise upset
In a shock upset, Labour's Jonathan Ashworth has lost his seat in Leicester South to local candidate Adam.
Ashworth, the shadow paymaster general, had held the seat since a 2011 by-election and was widely expected to retain it.
However, Adam, a 51-year-old local, secured 14,739 votes, beating Ashworth by a slim margin of 979 votes.
